Can you lose money in the stock market?
In short: Yes. A stock can lose up to 100% if the company goes bankrupt, and a whole market can lose 30 to 50% in a crash. With leveraged products you can even lose more than you put in.
Ways to lose
A bankrupt company, a market crash, panic-selling after a drop, high fees, or leverage multiplying losses.
What the radar measures
For every stock the radar forecasts the risk of losing more than 10% in a month. On years never seen, that risk is well identified: when it is rated high, a sharp drop happens about two and a half times more often than usual.
How to limit risk
Diversify, invest for the long term, avoid leverage, and only invest money you don't need.
